2023 Kickoff Press Release

January 9th, 2023
Denfeld Nation Automation (DNA) Kickoff Update
Greetings,
Last Saturday, FIRST Robotics released the 2023 game during a kickoff stream at UMD. This
year’s game is called “CHARGED UP” sponsored by Haas Automation. The challenge this year
requires each alliance to pick up cones and inflatable cubes then place them on stair-like shelves.
Points escalate if the cones and cubes are placed on higher levels of the shelves. Another aspect
of the Charged Up game is trying to balance the robot on a platform that shifts back and forth.
For more information about this year’s challenge, please check out the video linked below, or
search “FIRST Charged Up” on YouTube. https://youtu.be/0zpflsYc4PA
After attending the UMD Kickoff stream our team, as well as SubZero Robotics Team 5690 from
Esko, went to Elim Church to read the rulebook and discuss game strategies together.
“Coopertition” (competition with cooperation) is one of the most important values of FIRST
Robotics, and working together with Esko exemplifies it. After our team said goodbye to Esko,
we started brainstorming designs on how to play the game and began mocking up ideas to start
prototyping the robot when we returned to school on Monday.
We are very excited to begin the 2023 build season! In order to keep up with our progress, make
